HPLC vs. Mass Spectrometry: What Each Test Measures
Two analytical techniques appear on most peptide COAs: high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS). They answer different questions.
HPLC: how pure?
HPLC separates the components of a sample, allowing the relative purity of the main peak to be quantified.
Mass spectrometry: is it the right molecule?
MS measures molecular mass, confirming the identity of the compound against its expected value.
